Holiday – Day 4 – Afternoon

MONTFALCÓ

I’ve never visited a real castle before. A place where the history is so old it is difficult to comprehend. This castle is on a high place and made with stone work. It’s mostly in pretty good condition, but there is evidence of decay. I imagine it is expensive to renovate and upkeep this old architecture. We didn’t have long as the children were asleep in the car.

Into the castle of montfalcó

This will be a primarily pictorial post, as the words won’t really do justice. I will mention the bakery, though – imagine the fire blazing, dough being kneaded, and left to rise. Then, once ready, placed into the oven on spatulas with long handles.

The rest of the castle area was partially renovated, there was a restaurant inside, but also partially abandoned- an absorbing walk through time. The first human recording of the castle is from 1035 – that speaks for itself!

And outside, it wasn’t rocket science to see why the castle was positioned where it was.

Wow what an amazing building, I wonder about the builders balancing all those rocks on top of each other, nice photos!

Thanks for your comment. I wonder about the construction of these buildings as well – it’s pretty amazing when you start thinking about the technology ( or lack of!).
